First, I wish all of you a kind and pleasant new year filled with laughter.

Second, I'm getting into the planning stages of opening an etsy or artfire shop. I plan to sell a number of cool handmade items, most notably katana replicas. These will be original designs for the most part with some classic designs as well. I also plan to sell cosmo/astrolabe/star-trackers (haven't chosen a proper name yet) euro style swords, and if I can find a teammate, some rugged canvas bags. So, some questions.

The first question is, does any of this sound appealing to you guys or should I quit now?

The second question is, do you guys like the idea of a katana "forge" option where you can choose between several different designs of fittings? Essentially, I will be making wood blades for the swords but the other pieces will be made from cast resin so that many exact pieces can be made. Using resin will cut down on man hours, and also allow me to create custom choices for people quickly and more cheaply than I could in all wood. Anyways, a customer would choose black or white fittings (or a combination of black/white) and a style of habaki, seppa, tsuba, and fuchi/kashira from a list of options available.

Of course, once I earn some money from the initial sales, I can upgrade these options in two ways. One, expand the list of choices. Two, I can begin to offer cold cast parts. This method mixes real metal into the resin which is buffed to create a real metal finish. This will allow me to give the options of bronze, nickel silver, brass, and a few others for the fittings. This will be a more expensive option, but a more realistic one as well.

The third question is simply about price. My prices for a full katana would probably be in the same price range of a metal "wall hanger" sword, which is around 80-120 USD (I know some wall hangers even go for much less). So, the question is would you still consider a wood and resin sword that you can customize and is convention safe over a real metal (although still quite fake) wall hanger?

Please share your thoughts on these questions.

Etsy has a pretty big customer base so I say go for it. If I wasn't a fulltime uni student with a really limited income I would so buy one.
